Set of 3 or 6 Salvia officinalis ‘Berggarten’ Sage Herb Plants, Hardy Perennial Culinary Herb, Outdoor Garden Ready, 1 Litre Root-Ball

£18.99

PACK OF:

Bergarten Sage is widely regarded as one of the finest culinary sage varieties available. Originally bred in Germany, this compact and robust cultivar of Salvia officinalis is prized for its exceptionally large, rounded, silvery-green leaves that are packed with aromatic oils — perfect for use in the kitchen. Unlike many common sage varieties, Bergarten rarely bolts or flowers, meaning the plant directs its energy into producing lush, flavourful foliage throughout the growing season.

This set includes three well-established Bergarten Sage plants, each supplied in a 1 litre root ball, ready for planting out into borders, herb gardens, raised beds or containers. Bergarten holds a neat, bushy habit and is well suited to smaller gardens or patio growing where space is at a premium. As a hardy, evergreen perennial, it will provide fresh sage leaves for your kitchen year after year with minimal care.

Bergarten Sage thrives in a sunny, sheltered position in free-draining soil and, once established, is tolerant of dry conditions. It pairs beautifully with other Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary, thyme and oregano. A light trim after any sparse flowering or in spring will help maintain a tidy shape and encourage fresh new growth.

  • Lightly prune in spring to encourage bushy new growth and prevent the plant from becoming leggy.

  • Avoid cutting back into old, woody stems as regrowth from old wood can be slow.

  • Replace plants every 4–5 years as sage can become woody and less productive over time.
